One of the most iconic videogame characters in history is turning 35 today. If you’re around my age you probably spent hours traversing the maze, the yellow character chomping down pellets while avoiding his alien enemies Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde.
Birthday parties are being held for Pac-Man across the world. It comes ahead of Sony Pictures’ releases of the feature film about Pac-Man, Pixels. The film is of course set in the 1980s and stars Adam Sandle, Kevin James, Josh Gad, and Peter Dinklage (of Game of Thrones fame) as a group of friends who have to use their arcade skills to save the world from invading aliens.
Today Pac-man’s birthplace, Tokyo, will hold attempt to break the Guiness World Record for
the largest human image of PAC-MAN. In Chicago, Professor Toru Iwatani, the creator of Pac-Man, will be at Level 25, a brand new dining and entertainment facility inspired by the character. In the UK, Pac-Man will celebrate his birthday with a special thrill – he’ll be launched into space while his journey will be captured by a special GoPro camera unit.
South African Pac-Man fans are being challenged to change their social media profile pictures to a Pac-Man picture to show their support.
