There’s been a media frenzy after author Harper Lee announced a sequel to her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, will be published this year.
The book is called Go Set a Watchman, which features the main character in Mockingbird, Scout Finch, as an adult.
It’s set to be released on 14 July.
It’s been 55 years since the publication of Lee’s only novel, about racism in America’s south. She is now 88 years old.
With 40 million copies sold and no new efforts after decades, Lee isn’t concerned that the sequel might not live up to the hype. “It’s a pretty decent effort,” she told The Guardian.
In South Africa the book will be published by Penguin Random House SA. I cannot wait. In the meantime, I will be re-reading Mockingbird.
